Rosecea

Rosacea affects millions of people and is associated with facial flushing, redness, and acne-like lesions. Rosacea usually starts in a person’s 30s, and over time becomes more persistent and longer lasting. Topical treatments consists of gentle skin care, antibiotics creams, and gels containing metronidazole sulfacetamide or azelaic acid. Oral antibiotics are used to treat the more severe acne-like form of rosacea. Intense Pulsed Light treatments, the workhorse of aesthetic dermatology, reduce facial redness, flushing, and dilated blood vessels, as does photodynamic therapy. VersaPulse® Aesthetic Laser treatments can trace out specific dilated blood vessels and red spots.

Acne

Lasers and light-based devices are playing an ever-increasing role in the treatment of acne. Traditionally, acne was treated with topically applied and oral antibiotics. Now, laser and light-based devices are viable effective alternatives in treating acne. BLU-U is a special blue light treatment that reduces the bacteria in the follicles that causes acne. It is gentle, safe, and there are no drug-related side effects. CoolTouch® Laser is another FDA-approved treatment for acne and acne scars. Photodynamic therapy, the combination of BLU U light and a topically applied agent called Levulin®, has been shown to provide results similar to oral antibiotics. This combination can be effective against more severe acne. In spite the evidence of success of these treatments, insurance companies consider them to be cosmetic and will not reimburse for them.
