Laser Skin Resurfacing
California Laser Skin Resurfacing

Over time facial skin develops fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes, lips and across the cheeks. Frown lines and smile lines deepen and persist. The skin becomes more sallow, its luster and clarity are lost. Laser Skin Resurfacing, is a unique technique that utilizes the focus beam of a state-of-the-art UltraPulse® CO2 laser or of an Erbium laser, to precisely plane away aged and sun damaged skin. Premature aging and wrinkling of the skin are reduced.

Sun damage combined with decreased skin elasticity, and gravity, and the major factors in aging. Stress, poor nutrition, excessive sun exposure, smoking, and pollution all aggravate the natural aging process.

In addition, many acne scars, surgical scars, superficially pigmented and precancerous lesions are amenable to laser skin resurfacing.

How Does Laser Rejuvenation Work?
Our skin is about 70% water and is literally vaporized as its water absorbs the energy of the beam of the CO2 UltraPulse® or Erbium laser. Skin can be precisely planed, edges of wrinkles and scars flattened, in a controlled and systematic manner, eliminating the upper or epidermal layer of skin, and a variable amount of the dermis, i.e., the collagen and elastic containing part of the skin, all without any bleeding. During the healing process, new collagen and elastic tissues are formed, replacing the fractured sun damage elements.

With an expert eye and an artistic hand, Dr. Binstock expertly removes fine lines, improves deep wrinkles, reduces sun damage, and helps eliminate precancerous areas and uneven pigmentation. The resulting new and more youthful skin surface will appear fresher, brighter, smoother, tighter, and generally more evenly colored.

The Recovery Process:
Immediately after laser skin resurfacing, the treated areas will discolor and swell especially around the eyes. An ointment will be applied to keep the healing area moist and to help prevent scab formation. Two to three days after the resurfacing procedure, weeping will have ceased, and you will continue to apply the ointment until your skin heals in 7 to 10 days.

The initial redness fades in a few weeks to pink and is easily camouflaged by cosmetics, generally disappearing in one to three months. For some, the redness may persist for a longer period of time.

It is important to use a sunscreen with at least SPF-20 protection that is effective against both UVA and UVB rays, and to avoid direct sun exposure for at least three to six months, as the sun can cause uneven pigmentation to develop in the treated areas.

Are You A Candidate For Laser Resurfacing?
We will assess your medical history, age, skin type, and pigmentation. Be sure to tell us about any viral infections (herpes simplex, fever blisters), sun sensitivity, significant medical problems, and any medications that you may be taking, whether you have used Accutane in the last year, whether you have previously undergone a chemical peel or dermabrasion, and if you have had problems with scarring.

You will want to discuss with us your desires and goals, and together we can decide if your expectation of benefits are realistic.

Cost And Reimbursement
Fees for laser rejuvenation are based upon the extent and complexity of the procedure. Medical insurance will not cover and will not reimburse you for cosmetic procedures.
