Lewis Tanenbaum, M.D.
A pioneer in the field of sunlight's effect on the skin, Dr. Tanenbaum completed his training in dermatology at Harvard Medical School in 1975 and was the first dermatology resident selected for the Massachusetts General Hospital Photobiology Fellowship, a program that emphasized laser and ultraviolet light treatment for skin conditions. The author of over thirty scientific publications, Dr. Tanenbaum was recruited to join the academic faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, where he was responsible for the residency training program at the Fort Miley V.A. Hospital.
Dr. Tanenbaum established the Mill Valley office in 1976; the San Francisco financial district office was opened soon after in 1981. While developing these clinical practices, Dr. Tanenbaum remained active in clinical research and for 10 years served as the medical director for dermatology at Syntex Pharmaceuticals, Palo Alto, where he was responsible for helping to develop new dermatologic medications. As medical director, he was a frequent advisor to the FDA.
Today, Dr. Tanenbaum's emphasis is on clinical dermatology, primarily the early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer and melanoma, and reversing the signs of sun damaged skin using preventative skin care programs. His practice is now limited to the Mill Valley office on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Deborah Altemus, D.O.
Dr. Deborah Altemus joined Aesthetic Dermatology in 2008. Prior to joining us, she served as a physician for the U.S. Army for twenty years. Dr Altemus treated soldiers, family members and retirees in such diverse places as the Presido of San Francisco, Germany, Washington, DC. Her last active duty assignment was as chief of the Dermatology Service at Tripler AMC in Honolulu. While at Tripler, she treated soldiers departing to and returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. Dr Altemus subsequently practiced in Portland, Oregon for four years prior to relocating to the Bay Area.
Dr. Altemus attended medical school at Midwestern University in Chicago; her Dermatology training was completed at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Tx, and is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
In her time off, Dr. Altemus enjoys dancing, hiking, biking and the performing arts! She is the mother of two spirited teenagers and a pair of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that keep her busy as well!
Stephanie Cullinane, PA-C
Stephanie Cullinane joined Aesthetic Dermatology in 2001. She is a nationally certified physician assistant (PA-C) and a Fellow of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Stephanie graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine’s Primary Care Associate Program in January, 2000 and obtained her BA from Smith College. Before specializing in dermatology, she worked in internal medicine and gynecology. Stephanie specializes in medical, including skin cancer screening and treatment, and cosmetic dermatology. She sees patients in the Mill Valley and San Francisco offices.
Tammy Yim, Aesthetician
Tammy Yim is a licensed aesthetician with over 15 years of experience with Aesthetic Dermatology. Tammy specializes in anti-aging and acne treatments—including rejuvenating peels, microdermabrasion, and facials. She is also extremely knowledgeable with all skincare products and their application. Most importantly, Tammy loves her line of work and thoroughly enjoys helping people with their skin and skincare needs!
For the past 15 years, Tammy has also been a dedicated volunteer with the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good, Feel Better” program in San Francisco. This beneficial program is designed to help cancer patients “look good and feel better” while undergoing cancer treatment.
Tammy received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, and received her aesthetician training and license from Zenzi’s Beauty Academy in San Francisco, CA.
Amy Schachtell, Skin Care Specialist
After graduating from the W institution as a Licenced Esthetician 5 years ago, Amy continued her education with extensive chemical peel training, innovative skin care technologies, acne and problem skin facials . She has received training and experience at the Casa Madrona Spa in Sausalito where she specialized in treatment for aging, sun-damaged skin and hypo-pigmentation. Amy provided exclusive consultation and treatment for pregnant women. She has also perfected her eyebrow sculpting and is very well know for her whole body waxing abilities . Amy expanded her skin care expertise at both the Bay Club and Metropolitan Club in San Francisco to include microdermabrasion, silk peels and glycolic peels among other specific skin rejuvenation techniques. She has developed an expertise in providing innovative skin services that focus on stress and environmental factors that affect your skin. Amy takes pride in providing each of her clients a unique experience, tailored specifically to his or her needs.
Amy’s diverse experience has afforded her the opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of skin types and skin care needs. She strives to provide each client a thorough skin care regimen, thus providing them the highest quality results.
